Calling the United States 'a bully,' Chinese Ambassador to India Xu Feihong said that the US had benefited from free trade for many years but was now using tariffs as a tool to pressure other countries. He added that the US has imposed tariffs of up to 50 per cent on Indian goods, a move that China strongly opposes.

China Stands Firmly With India

Chinese Ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, said that the US has long benefited from free trade but is now using tariffs as bargaining tools. He added that the US has imposed tariffs of up to 50% on India, which China strongly opposes. Xu said staying silent would only encourage the “bully” and assured that China will firmly support India.

US Tariffs on Indian Goods

The US has imposed a steep 50% tariff on certain Indian imports. This includes a standard 25 per cent trade tariff and an additional 25 per cent penalty for buying Russian oil. According to Washington, India’s import of crude oil from Russia indirectly funds the Russia-Ukraine war. The US will implement the additional tariffs on select Indian goods, including penalties for Russian oil imports, starting from August 27.
